So you now have the home you’ve been coveting - now it’s time to create the stylish outdoor space that you’ve been imagining.

The outside of your home is not just about curb appeal.  It can be your personal oasis! The beauty of making an attractive, useful outdoor space is that it acts as extension of your home, creating more space for you to enjoy.

We have a couple of easy ways to create the perfect outdoor escape!

Extend Your Home

First, think of your outdoor space - whether it’s a patio, courtyard, or entire yard - as another room in your house.  What will this “room” be used for?  Entertaining?  Family time?  Relaxation?  If you’re looking for relaxation, privacy is key. Consider taller components like privacy fences or thick foliage. Water features are a great solution to block out noise.  For intimate dining experiences, hurricane lamps are a quick way to add romantic ambiance.  And for entertaining, we absolutely love hanging many colored blown-glass lanterns in a nearby tree.  It adds such a unique, festive feeling!

Pick a Theme

Next, think of what type of “feel” you want to invoke, sort of like a theme, and plan your decor around it.  If you want tropical, maybe your grill is a tiki hut and you’re surrounded by bougainvillea.  Maybe your idea of heaven is a secret garden with a koi pond and an ivy covered gate.  Whatever you choose, make sure it fits your personality and lifestyle!

Get Inspired

And finally, if you need some ideas, visit local outdoor spaces and see where you feel at home.  Restaurant patios, gardens, home tours, spas.  Take inspiration from these and make them your own.  Don’t forget the basics! Buy weather resistant furniture, or if you repurpose something from inside, be sure to weatherize it.  Remember to think about coverage from the sun as well, you definitely want a place to retreat on hot days!  And, as always, selecting a great color story is key!

Whatever avenue you choose, know that you are creating an area that’s right for you!  Adding your personal touches throughout your outdoor space is what makes it uniquely yours!
